I'm still waiting for Microsoft to let me change the default search engine in Notepad. Hopefully they add macros too.

lol, if I open Control Panel on Windows 10 now it gives me the same visual language as security warnings to say... I changed my search engine away from Bing. There is no way to dismiss it without changing my browser and/or search engine. I can see why MS has MSPAC now. 💸💸💸🤑

Oh look, another Microsoft Dark Pattern designed to push its own browser, Edge. Edge is a fine browser but at this point I think I might start telling people to avoid it on principle, based on the very shady things it's doing. theverge.com/2021/12/2/22813…

Current compromise amendments show that MEPs are leaning toward a ban of dark patterns for consent and "repeatedly requesting that a recipient of the service consents to data processing... esp. by presenting a pop-up that interferes w/ user experience" An end to cookie banners?

Negotiations on the Digital Services Act are going at a breakneck speed ahead of a potential vote on Dec. 13-14 (tbc). Amendments are regularly reworked, but here are some insights into where things are at the moment: pro.politico.eu/news/143477

@darkpatterns In order to "unsubscribe" from unsolicited Unilever emails (I don't recognize any of the affiliated brands) I would need to give them a mountain of private contact info. Into the spam reports it goes!

If you want to share your observations with researchers, regulators and lawyers across the world, it's probably a good idea to start by publishing on Twitter or elsewhere on the web.

My tip would be to include screenshots and to be factual (don't swear or exaggerate). This makes it more likely for journalists to embed your tweets / etc.
